Al Bashayer Arabian camel racing  festival to kick off on February 28

Adam: The fifth Annual Edition of the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival will kick off on February 28 in the Wilayat of Adam with the participation of camel owners and breeders from within the Sultanate and the GCC States.

The festival will continue until 5 March.

His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan said: “We celebrate this year, the new edition of Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival within the development plan of Al Bashayer racecourse.

“The festival culminates the vision of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour who worked for the preservation of cultural heritage. It also comes within the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on employment of all capabilities for encouragement of youth to safeguard and preserve the Omani values and traditions”.

He said that Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival has become one of the most important sports, cultural, social and tourism events at the level of the Sultanate and the GCC as it disseminates the spirit of love and brotherhood among camel owners.

The Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival is characterised by a high–level of competition among the participants, he added.

The various sectors of society participate in the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival, which provides economic activities to boost development in the region as a whole. The activities are in line with the Oman Vision 2040 aimed at creating a diversified and sustainable economy in the Sultanate, he added.

He said that this edition of the festival has made possible implementation of the plans envisioned in the past for making the festival an icon that sets an example for others.

On the competitions, he said that “every year, we witness tough competitions among the participants in all rounds, during the five days of the festival.

He said that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has approved allocation of land for a project on the construction of an equestrian racecourse, which would see the light soon. The project would receive our personal care and attention, he added.
