Ministry launches choose your online residential plot service

Muscat: As part of the programme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning for distribution of residential land plots, the Ministry has launched an online service, ‘Choose your plot’ on 6 February.

The beneficiaries under the programme include families who do not own a house or residential land plot in their name.

The programme is part of the implementation of the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on distribution of 23,066 government residential land plots. Based on the provisions of Royal Decree No. 42/2021, government land plots are to be allotted to eligible families.

Citizens entitled to plots can choose them online through the ministry’s platform, which has digital maps, and through an application that is simple to fill.
As per the Royal Decree No. 42/2021, families with no houses in their names would be eligible. The title deed would be in the name of the family breadwinner/ head of the family, said the ministry. The priority list will be prepared by the Council of Ministers and the age of the applicant should not be less than 23 years on the date of submission of application.

The Ministry stated that on receiving a text message stating the eligibility of the applicant for a residential land plot, the applicant could access the service portal through the link within five days.

The citizen entitled to a residential plot may examine the site physically or virtually (within five days) before confirming his decision.

The ministry reaffirmed that if the selection process and allotment begins, but the applicant concerned does not confirm the reservation of the plot within the stipulated time or in case of non-payment of the prescribed fee within three months from confirming reservation, the application would be automatically struck off the rolls.

Persons with special needs, families under the umbrella of social security and those with monthly income of less than OMR300 are exempted from payment of fees. Certain families, including pensioners with monthly income of less than OMR300, are exempted from payment of 50% of the land plot value.

It may be mentioned that the electronic system launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning provides smooth and transparent digital processing while choosing the plot.
