Saudi Arabia mandates booster dose to allow access to public venues

Riyadh: Taking a booster dose is now a requirement for individuals who took the second dose eight months ago, in order to obtain an “Immune” status in the Tawakkalna system.

A Ministry of Interior official source said that starting February 1, 2022, receiving the booster dose will be a requirement for the “Immune” status on Tawakkalna to be displayed, and this will be applied to all individuals who are above the age of 18 and have spent more eight months since receiving the second dose.

The source clarified that as of the aforementioned date; The “Immune “status in the (Tawakkalna) application will be a pre-requisite for the following:

1. Entering any economic, commercial, cultural, sports or tourism activity.

2. Entering any cultural, scientific, social, or recreational event.

3. Entering any public or private institution, be it for business or otherwise.

4. Boarding a plane and public transportation.

The above instructions do not apply to individuals who are exempt from taking the vaccine and as indicated in Tawakkalna. The source stressed the need for everyone to comply with the precautionary, preventive measures and all approved health protocols, adding that all measures are subject to continuous evaluation by the competent health authorities, and as per the developments in the epidemiological situation.
