Muscat: The population of the Sultanate of Oman increased by 1.04 per cent  at the end of 2021 to reach 4.54 million compared to 4.48 million in 2020, according to statistics issued by .the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The statistics issued by the NCSI showed that Omanis represented 61.94 per cent out of the total population where the number of Omanis stood at 2,804,117 at end of last December, while expatriates represented 38.06 per cent to reach I,723,329.

The population in Muscat Governorate represented 29 per cent of the total population at 1,311,686.

The number of citizens in North Al Batinah Governorate amounted to 653,662 representing 20.1 per cent of the total Omanis, followed by Muscat Governorate by 19.7 per cent (553,377), Al Dhakhiliyah Governorate by 13.38 per cent (375,288), and South Al Batinah (361, 473).

The statistics showed that the population increased during December last year by 1.94 per cent in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate compared to November of the same year.
The population in South Al Batinah Governorate increased by 2 per cent to 475,763 including 361,473 Omanis (76 per cent) while the number of expatriates stood at 114,290.

The number of Omanis in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate stood at 231,772 out of the total population in the Governorate of 322,306.

The number of the population in Musandam Governorate stood at 49,830 including 34,867 Omanis and 14,963 expatriates.

The population of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate amounted to 274,325 including 197,347 Omanis (71. 9 per cent) and 76,978 expatriates. The population in Al Dhahirah Governorate stood at 216, 381, while the population in Al Wusta Governorate amounted to 52, 967.
