Oman Tourism: Visit Picturesque Wekan

Recently the sleepy beautiful mountain village of Wekan was in the limelight as it was rumoured of being the ‘fastest fast’ village.

The village, which can be reached through Wadi Mistal crossing the Ghubra bowl, on the foothills of Hajar Mountain is famous for its terraced gardens and orchards. During February every year nature and travel enthusiasts flock to this hillock to the magical apricot bloom, which reminds us of the cherry blossom in Japan and Washington.

The villagers grow onions, grapes, pomegranates, figs, apricots, oranges, and other vegetations here.
The Wekan-Hadash trekking route is a trekker’s paradise and for many rock climbers the hills of Wekan and Hadash is a favourite destination. The walk which has 750 plus steps intersecting with a falaj under the apricot bloom is an unforgettable experience.

It is the starting point for the hiking routes W24b and W25. Even if you don’t fancy tackling the either walk, it’s worth exploring the opening section of walk W25, which winds up through terraced gardens under the apricot branches to the rear of the village.
