Oman shares fall on dull trading

Muscat: Trading activity remained tepid and the MSM30 Index closed at 5,838.87 points, down by 0.15 per cent. The MSM Sharia Index remained unchanged at 885.09 points. Galfar Engineering was the most active in terms of volume while Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) led in terms of turnover. Galfar Engineering, up by 3.74 per cent, was the only gainer on Tuesday, while the top loser was Al Anwar Holding, down by 4.04 per cent.
As many as 631 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR2.4 million with 11.3 million shares changing hands. Out of 40 traded securities, four advanced, 10 declined and 26 remained unchanged. Omani investors remained net buyers for OMR186,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR128,000 followed by GCC and Arab investors for OMR58,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index closed negatively at 7,402.38 points, down by 0.53 per cent. AlSharqia Investment gained 0.71 per cent to close at OMR0.141. Al Anwar Holding, Muscat Finance, Al Izz Bank, Bank Dhofar and Oman & Emirates Holding declined by 4.04 per cent, 2.50 per cent, 1.69 per cent, 1.67 per cent and 1.43 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index advanced by 0.32 per cent to close at 7,332.78 points. Galfar Engineering and Al Maha Ceramics increased by 3.74 per cent and 0.44 per cent, respectively. Al Hassan Engineering and National Detergent declined by 1.15 per cent and 0.61 per cent, respectively.
Services Index was little changed at 3,253.57 points, up by 0.01 per cent. National Gas, up by 1.15 per cent, was the only sector gainer. Phoenix Power and Renaissance Services declined by 0.64 per cent and 0.34 per cent, respectively.
