Muscat: More than 1,600 new infections of COVID-19 were reported in Oman on Wednesday, 19 January 2022, as two more people succumbed to the disease.

Figures released by the Ministry of Health show that while 350 people did recover from the disease yesterday, the number of new positive infections was more than four times higher at 1,619.

This means that since the start of the pandemic, 316,472 people have tested positive for the disease, although 303,112 have recovered. Unfortunately, however, 4,124 people have so far died from COVID-19.

There are about 121 patients currently admitted to hospital for COVID-related complications, with 42 of them admitted in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday. 15 people are in intensive care.

The Ministry of Health also reminded people to continue to practice all necessary measures against COVID-19, while advising them to get fully vaccinated and/or boosted as soon as they are eligible.

“With our commitment to wearing masks and maintaining social and physical distancing, we will prevent ourselves, our families, and our community from the spread of the coronavirus,” said MOH during its daily update.
