Muscat : Around 90 per cent of the Covid-19 deaths in the Sultanate of Oman have occurred among the people who have not received Covid-19 vaccines, the Ministry of Health (MOH), said.

The report issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH), indicated that the Sultanate of Oman recorded about 306,755 Covid-19 cases , while the total deaths amounted to about 4,117 deaths, and the recovery rate reached 98.4 per cent.

The report also showed that 94 per cent of the total target population in the Sultanate of Oman from the age of 12 years and above received at least one dose of vaccines, while the percentage of those who received two doses of vaccines reached 87 per cent.

The report showed a decrease in the number of deaths and inpatients resulting from Covid-19  in the Sultanate of Oman, comparable to the vaccination coverage rate. It is clear from the figure that the noticeable decrease in the number of deaths and inpatients coincided with the spread of the vaccination umbrella in the Sultanate of Oman.

The figure also shows the inverse relationship between the vaccination coverage rate and the number of deaths and inpatients. The higher the vaccination coverage rates, the lower the number of deaths and inpatients at hospitals.

The report emphasised that the majority of deaths and  inpatients  were recorded among the groups that did not receive the vaccine and in the time period prior to the start of the vaccination campaign.

The Ministry of Health indicated that about 90 per cent of the deaths occurred among the unvaccinated group, while it was noted that the death rate among the vaccinated group was very low (7.5 percent) for those vaccinated with one dose and (2.5 percent) for those who vaccinated with two doses.

As for inpatient cases , its percentage for non-vaccinated people is about 89 per cent of the total inpatients, while the inpatient percentage does not exceed seven per cent for those vaccinated with one dose  and 2.5 per cent for those who vaccinated with two doses.

Despite the noticeable decrease in the rates of deaths and inpatients  in the two-dose vaccinated group, according to what studies have shown, it is possible to reduce these percentages further to reach their lowest levels, by taking the booster dose.
