Natural gas production rises by 9.2% in Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s production of natural gas (including imports) by the end of November 2021 reached 46.05 billion cubic metres compared to 42.186 billion cubic metres in November 2020, comprising a rise of 9.2 per cent, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The increase is attributed mainly to the rise of associated gas by 26.2 per cent to reach 8.499 billion cubic metres compared to 6.736 billion cubic metres by the end of November 2020 and the increase of non-associated gas (including imports) by 5.9 per cent to reach 37.550 billion cubic metres compared to 35.449 billion cubic metres by the end of the same period in 2020.

Gas usage in electric power plants (including Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Defence) went up by 8.9 per cent to reach 7.384 billion cubic meters by the end of November 2021 compared to 6.778 billion cubic meters by the end of November 2020.

The use of gas in industrial zones (including Oman Mining Company and Oman Cement Company) reached 201 million cubic metres by the end of November 2021 compared to 128 million cubic metres at the end of the same period in 2020, constituting a surge by 57.2 per cent.

The amount of gas used in oil fields recorded a rise by 17 per cent to reach 11.925 billion cubic metres compared to 10.189 billion cubic metres by the end of the same period in 2020. Meanwhile, the amount of gas used in industrial projects recorded a marginal increase by 5.8 per cent to reach 26.539 billion cubic metres compared to 25.091 billion cubic metres by the end of November 2020.
