Oman-Bahrain Sports Day: Winners of triathlon announced

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organised in the Wilayat of Al Musannah, yesterday, the Omani-Bahraini Sports Day in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, and His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa First Deputy Chairman of the Youth and Sports Council, President of the Public Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.

 The Omani-Bahraini Sports Day came within the strong ties between the two countries and within the partnership and cooperation in sport.  The activities comprised a triathlon, which saw the participation of 75 male and female participants, as well as paragliding and capoeira.

Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain’s Public Authority for Sports stressed the significance of holding such sports activities which contribute to development of participants’ sports expertise and competitiveness. He also added that cooperation in the sports field between the Sultanate and Bahrain would continue at all levels.

He said that the activities of the sports day represented successful and efficient participation, on which further cooperation could be established for the interest of both the countries. He added that the executive programme signed between the two sides focuses on several aspects including sports medicine, training and cooperation at the Olympic Academy.

Dr. Jumah Ahmed Al Ka’abi, ambassador of Bahrain to the Sultanate, reaffirmed the importance of organising this activity in the field of sports between the two countries. He also pointed to that the significance of the visit of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice Chairman of the Youth and Sports Council, Chairman of the Public Authority for Sports, and Chairman of Bahrain’s Olympic Committee to the Sultanate, in contributing to development of the various fields between the two countries.

His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the attendees toured the various sections of the exhibition accompanying the event and acquainted themselves with the various activities of the exhibition, organised by Oman Aerial Sports Committee, which included a number of pavilions representing the various aerial sports in the Sultanate.

His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Youth and Sports Council, President of the Public Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, crowned the winners in the triathlon race.

In the men’s category, the first three places went to Omar Abdullah Hamza, followed by Abdulrahman Mubarak Mohammed and Mohammed Mubarak Mohammed from Bahrain. In the female category, first place went to Samirah Zaid Al Baitar, followed by Fatima Abdulmohsin Al Mihamid and Maryam Mansour Al Aridh from Bahrain.
