First day of Eid al-Fitr announced in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has announced that Sunday, June 25, will be the last day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, and Monday, June 26, will be the first day of Shawwal or the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
The Main Committee For Moon Sighting has said in their meeting on Saturday evening that the moon has not been sighted for the month of Shawwal, confirming that Sunday will complete the 30th day of Ramadan. Monday, the 26th of June 2017, will be the start of Shawwal, and the first day of the blessed Eid Al Fitr celebration.
The Committee issued the following statement:
"Praise be to God and prayers and peace be upon Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
"The Committee for Moon Sighting has met for the month of Shawwal, 1438 H under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Salemi Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, and the membership of both His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, HE Khalid Bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Rashid Al Siyabi, Vice President of the Supreme Court and Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khatib, Chairman of the Commission for Reconciliation and Reconciliation in Salalah.
"In receiving the reports of the crescent sighting to determine the beginning of the month of Shawwal, astronomical reports revealed that the moon was in conjunction at 6:31 morning, and was rising at 7:15 pm, while sunset was at 6:57 in the evening, meaning that the moon was rising after sunset by about 18 minutes.
"The height of the crescent was three degrees, therefore, seeing the crescent on this day was not possible. The committee did not receive any report about sighting the crescent moon.
"Accordingly, Sunday will complete the thirtieth day of the month of Ramadan 1438 H, and Monday is the start of the month of Shawwal 1438 H, corresponding to 26 June 2017.
"On this occasion, the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs is pleased to extend its sincere congratulations and greetings to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, praying for his health and well-being and long life, and the blessed Oman with glory and pride, and the Islamic region with blessings, and everyone with a prosperous year."
