Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has clarified about a woman who has received an expired COVID-19 vaccine.

"The Ministry of Health followed up on what is being circulated on social media platforms, in which an owner of a tweet states that she received the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and then she discovered, after receiving the dose, that it was expired, and attached to the tweet a picture showing a date on the package that is 01/2022," MOH said in a statement.

The Ministry of Health would like to clarify that the expiry date is not the beginning of the month, but rather the end of the month. Therefore, the dose that the woman received was not expired.

The Ministry would also like to clarify that it is common knowledge in the science of vaccines and serology that some vaccines have their validity extended after production, based on the latest studies on stability and efficacy, and in coordination with manufacturers and regulatory authorities.

The Ministry welcomes all inquiries aimed at clarifying the facts and calls upon everyone to obtain the correct information from official sources.
