Female contractors in Oman can bring in expatriate workforce

Muscat: Female contractors in Oman are allowed to hire expatriates, provided they meet certain conditions, the Ministry of Labour has said.

“Female contractors can hire non-Omani workers, provided those contractors are engaged full-time to manage their commercial establishments, are registered with the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI), and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority,” said a ministry official, speaking to Times of Oman.

The clarification came following the issuance of a circular confirming the hiring capabilities of female contractors, which was issued by Nasr bin Amer bin Shuwain Al Hosani, Undersecretary for Labour at the Ministry of Labour.

The official added, in clarification to this circular, “non-Omani workforce relates to males in construction work, engineering consultancy and the like related to contracting activity. This does not include the recruitment of non-Omani female workforce in contracting roles.”
