Education ministry denies rumours of drop in Oman’s ratings

Muscat: The Ministry of Education has strongly denied rumours circulating about the Sultanate of Oman being ranked among the bottom countries in the Education Quality Index for 2021, issued by the Davos Conference.

In a statement, dismissing the information as a rumour, the ministry said, “There is no truth to what is being circulated on social media platforms about the Sultanate  ranking in the last ranks of the Education Quality Index 2021. There is no report issued by the forum regarding this indicator so far. The forum has indicated that the competitiveness report for the year 2021 has not yet been issued, and that it has nothing to do with the data and indicators that have been published.”

Additionally, the ministry pointed out that Oman will not be included in the 2021 Competitiveness Report; because it is one of the countries in which opinion polls have not been implemented due to the pandemic. “Note that all countries in which opinion surveys have not been implemented will not be included in the 2021 report.”

The report for the year 2020 was issued in a special format without classification or rankings as a result of the pandemic. The last ranked version of the report was in 2019, where the Sultanate achieved a rank of 53 globally out of 141 countries that participated and 6 in the Arab world.
