Oman, Sri Lanka celebrate 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties with hockey match
Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Ameer Ajwad and the Chairman of the Oman Hockey Association Dr. Marwan Al Juma inaugurated the tournament.

Muscat: The first ever Sri Lanka–Oman club level friendly hockey tournament has been organised by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Muscat in collaboration with the Oman Hockey Association .

The matches were played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on 28 December 2021.

The Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Ameer Ajwad and the Chairman of the Oman Hockey Association Dr. Marwan Al Juma inaugurated the tournament by cutting a cake to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Oman

The Board members of Oman Hockey Association, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation Kamal Pushpakumara, Tivanka Wijeratne from Oman–Sri Lanka Hockey Committee and senior officials of the Ministries of Sports and Youth Affairs of both countries were present on the occasion.

The friendly matches were held on 28 December 2021 between Sri Lanka’s Defence Warriors team and Oman’s Sohar Club team followed by Sri Lanka’s Colombo Hockey and Football Club team and Oman’s Ahli Sidab Club team.

The final matches and the presentation ceremony will be held on 29 December 2021 with the participation of Sri Lanka’s State Minister for Regional Cooperation Tharaka Balasuriya and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Oman Basil Ahmed Amir Al Rawas as the guest of honour.

Ambassadors of India, Malaysia, Pakistan, other dignitaries, hockey fans and Sri Lankan community members were present during the inaugural event.
