Muscat: The AlKhalil Arabic Language Test for non-Arabic speakers, will be implemented starting next year.

The program includes a standardised test of the ability to speak, write and read in the Arabic language, which enables educational institutions to measure the level of the Arabic language for non-Arabic speaking applicants, similar to the IELTS test in English.

Coinciding with the International Day of the Arabic Language, the Ministry of Economy announced that its tenth five-year plan includes the strategic program, “The AlKhalil Test for the Arabic Language,” which will be launched by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs early next year.

The program aims to reach an educational system of high quality and partnership, by adopting a unified system for level assessment in the Arabic language for non-native speakers.

The program includes 5 components, as follows:

1. Establishment of the Center for Measurement and Quality Control in Teaching Arabic.

2. Unification of the body supervising the conduct of Arabic language tests for non-native speakers.

3. Adoption of a unified system for level assessment in the Arabic language.

4. Raising the efficiency of Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers

5. Raising the quality of Arabic language education in the Sultanate

It is noteworthy that the entity responsible for implementing the "AlKhalil Arabic Language Test” programme is the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, with the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Sultan Qaboos University and private universities.
