Muscat: The Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced a three day weekend, starting from January 1, 2022 .

"Under the directives of  His Highness, the Ruler of Emirate of Sharjah and with the follow-up of His Highness the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah approved changing the weekly work system in the emirate in line with the vision of the United Arab Emirates to enhance its competitive position for various sectors and in a manner that supports the business environment and the economic market," Emirates News Agency (WAM), said in a statement.

According to the new system that is applied to local government agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah, the weekly work system will be four working days from Monday to Thursday, and the weekend will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The change also included the official working hours of government agencies to be from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The implementation of the new system will begin from January 1, 2022 .
