Muscat: Indian School Muscat’s alumni association (ISMA) raised more than OMR5000 through their charity cricket match, with the money expected to go towards paying the fees of those whose parents cannot afford to fund their education.
The matches were held on the weekend of 5 and 6 April at the Oman Cricket Association grounds in Amerat, and featured four teams, all of which consisted of ISM alumni.
“The goal of this tournament was to united alumni together in giving back to their alma mater,” said Mukund Manohar, President of ISMA. “We gave out approximately OMR2500 in scholarships to 16 students last year, and our goal this was to double that effort.
Through this tournament, we have exceeded our fundraising goal and we hope to give out more scholarships to those who are truly deserving of this.”
This being the second edition of the tournament, it featured 56 Alumni from Indian School Muscat who competed in a series of round-robin cricket matches of eight overs a side. Through this event, ISMA raised funds for their Kindle initiative, where they provide a platform to fund the education and advancement of children from low-income families.
The four ISMA teams, namely ISMA Warriors, Challengers, Titans and Spartans were captained by Sanjit Kanojia, Suketu Limbani, Jaspreet Singh and Ansar Ansari respectively, and played a total of six matches, with each team playing every other team. ISMA Spartans emerged victorious by winning all their matches with scores of 80, 54 and 85 runs.
Rakesh Adlakha, Deputy Chief of Mission & Head of Chancery of the Indian Embassy to the Sultanate of Oman, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded the winning trophy and medals to all the players. The tournament was attended by the Principal, staff and members of the School Management Committee of Indian School Muscat.
“Our sincere appreciation and gratitude go out to all the sponsors and patrons who have supported us in our initiative,” added Mukund Manohar. “We believe that there is no greater pursuit than education and everyone has helped in making our vision a reality. Everyone needs a helping hand and we are doing our small part in giving back to the school community. Our ISM Alumni network are spread in over 50 countries across the globe and I would encourage everyone to join in on giving back to our alma mater.”
The Player of the Tournament was awarded to Ansar Ansari (Spartans), with Best Batsman award going to Ashwin Lobo (Spartans), the Best Bowler being named as Darwish Ellickal (Warriors), the Best Fielder prize going to Randall Machado (Spartans) and the Best Emerging Player awarded to Jaypal Udeshi (Spartans).
The tournament was attended by alumni from Oman and abroad along with their families in support of this cause
