Oman's Haya Water plans to build Liwa sewage treatment plant

Muscat: Haya Water is currently evaluating the bids for Liwa STP construction tender approximate capacity of 10,000 cubic metres per day. The sewage treatment plant (STP) is designed to fulfill the needs of the residents of Liwa for wastewater services taking into consideration the population growth and development that will be witnessed by this wilayat in the future, according to a press release.
The project will also include the establishment of an irrigation network with total length of about 63 kilometres. This network will be utilised for irrigation and other commercial and industrial usages.
"Haya Water has already floated the tender for constructing Liwa STP and its facilities. The tender is currently under evaluation and we hopeto commence the works of this project by December 2016. The construction of Liwa STP is expected totake two years. Haya Wateranticipates that this project will add a great value to the area by protecting groundwater, enhancing public health, preserving the environment and providingtreated wastewater for plantation,productive agricultureand other industrial and commercial purposes,” said Eng. Said bin Rashid Al Asmi, projects general manager in Haya Water.
"We are delighted to take this step which is part of other projects that Haya Water is implementing outside the governorate of Muscat to provide advanced wastewater system.Haya Water has also floated consultancy service tendersfor constructing wastewater networks and STPs in wilayat in Diba and Madha in the governorate of Musandam,” he added.
Haya Water started executing these projects based on the Ministers Council Decision in 2014 to expand the scope of work of Haya Water to cover all governorates of the Sultanate, except Dhofar. Haya Water signed an agreement with Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources on July 15, 2015. The agreement stated that Haya Water will be responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and supervision of all wastewater facilities in the governorates of Oman except Dhofar.
