Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has urged owners of hotel establishments not to promote or advertise themselves through social media without obtaining a tourist licence.

"With reference to the Ministry’s previous alert issued on August 17, 2021, about the owners of some hotel establishments advertising and promoting themselves through various social media without obtaining a tourist licence, which is in violation of Article (12) of the Tourism Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 33/2002,  the Ministry would like to emphasise to the owners of these establishments the necessity of stopping the activity.”

“It is not permissible for any natural or legal person to occupy, utilise, exploit or dispose of any tourist site or area, or a part of it, except with a license from the Ministry,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Establishments to which the announced controls apply, were also alerted regarding the reopening of applications for the establishment of hotel projects for which an announcement was made on November 15, 2021 and the need to apply within a period not exceeding six months from the date of the announcement in order to avoid the Ministry taking legal measures against them. “It  will be possible to submit these applications for obtaining a tourist license through the website of the Ministry, starting from December 1, 2021,” the Ministry added.
