Poweramp is a powerful (virtual) music player. Some of its features include 10 band optimised graphical equaliser for all supported formats, presets, custom presets. Separate bass and treble adjustment. Stereo expansion, mono mixing, balance. Crossfade. Gapless. Replay gain.
Other than that it’s got a fast library scan for those with a huge music collection, a tag editor, lyrics support (via musiXmatch plugin) and a lot more. Plays songs from folders and from own library.
Ultimately if your phone has decent headphone output, poweramp will boost it to a whole new level. It can however do nothing if your hardware is bad to begin with.
