MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,000.35 points, down 2.86 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended down by 1.20 per cent at 538.44 points.

Voltamp Energy, down 9.57 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Bank Nizwa were the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Bank Muscat were the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 879 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR4.21 million, with more than 16.92 million shares changing hands. Out of 51 traded securities, 0 advanced, 35 declined and 16 remained unchanged. At the session close, foreign investors were net sellers for OMR2.3 million while domestic investors were net buyers for OMR1.8 million followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR559,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,371.88 points, down 2.66 per cent. Sohar International Bank, Bank Muscat, Bank Nizwa, Arabia Falcon Insurance and United Finance were down 6.25 per cent, 5.51 per cent, 5.00 per cent, 4.17 per cent and 3.64 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index closed at 6,025.69 points, down 1.31 per cent. Voltamp Energy, NAPI, Galfar Engineering, Oman Fisheries and Raysut Cement were down 9.57 per cent, 4.20 per cent, 3.95 per cent, 3.39 per cent and 3.25 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 1.22 per cent before closing at 1,614.83 points. Omantel, Al Jazeera Services, OIFC, Renaissance Services and Oman National Engineering were down 3.26 per cent, 2.94 per cent, 2.82 per cent, 2.23 per cent and 2.13 per cent respectively.
