Implementation of OIC’s executive programme discussed at meeting

Istanbul: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Economy is taking part in the 37th ministerial session meetings of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Turkey.

Oman’s delegation in the two-day meetings is headed by Dr. Nasser Rashid Al Ma’awali, Undersecretary for Economy.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the COMCEC Strategy and OIC’s executive programme.

It also reviewed international economic developments which affect OIC member states, reports and recommendations from various institutions of the OIC and the COMCEC work teams.

The reports and recommendations touched on various topics, such as two-way trade, boosting the role of the private sector in economic cooperation, improving transportation and communications, developing the tourism sector, poverty alleviation, financial cooperation and sustaining agricultural security.

This year’s main topic is centered around exchanging views on the role of Islamic funding in supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
