Agreement signed for fish landing centre, fish market

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources on Monday signed an agreement to establish a fish landing centre in the Wilayat of Shaleem and Al Hallaniyat Islands and a fish market in the Wilayat of A’Rustaq.

The agreement was signed with a local company, and funded by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

The agreement was signed by Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Eng. Mohammed Ahmed Al Ghareebi, PDO’s External Affairs and Communication Manager, in the presence of Eng. Yaqoub Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Fisheries.

The fish landing centre will be established in Al Shuwaimiya (wholesale market - phase one) on an area of 1,320 square metres. It includes a sorting and cleaning hall, an auctioning area, cold stores, a fish loading and unloading area, ice production unit, administrative offices, shops and other services.

The fish market in A’Rustaq will be established on an area of more than 1,490 square metres.

It will include 24 fish sale stalls, 12 fish cutting stalls, an ice production unit, a cold store and stores, administrative offices, shops, a fish loading and unloading area and other services.
