Eight expats arrested for illegal fishing in Oman

Muscat: Eight expats have been arrested for using illegal nets on unlicensed fishing boats in the Wilayat of Mahout in Al Wusta Governorate.

"The Fisheries Control Team in Al Wusta Governorate arrested eight expatriate workers practicing fishing using hedge nets on unlicensed fishing boats in the Wilayat of Mahout. The boats and fishing equipment were seized and the workers were referred to the competent authorities in preparation for their deportation outside the country," the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources said in a statement.
