
Muscat: More than 44 per cent growth in fish production was recorded for the year 2020.
The Sultanate celebrates tomorrow the International Day for Fisheries, which falls on the twenty-first of November of each year. In an interview with the Oman News Agency, His Excellency Engineer Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, said that the fish sector is one of the five pillars of the national program for economic diversification, as the government has developed and developed the sector according to plans, programs and projects aimed at achieving sustainable fish development and achieving self-sufficiency in fish products within the Oman 2040 vision.
He said that the fish sector in the Sultanate of Oman has witnessed continuous growth over the past years, as fish production for the year 2020 was estimated at 840,000 tons, achieving a growth of 44.5 per cent and an increase in the value of production by 19 per cent to reach OMR364 million.
