The three international schools - ABQ Azzan Bin Qais (in Bawshar), ABQ Sohar and ABQ Seeb – have recently launched their new House System. One of the main strengths of the House System is giving students of all ages the opportunity to work together, creating a truly cohesive environment and ensuring that age is not a barrier to friendship and collaboration.
ABQ Education Group Chief Executive Officer, Humayun Kabir says, “The House System is a powerful incentive system for the students. It aims to facilitate more socialising between the different year groups, increase team spirit, encourage peer mentoring, boost the existing rewards system, inspire more students to get involved in activities and competitions, and create additional leadership opportunities for our students.”
The House System is inclusive of all learning types and interests. As soon as the schools are allowed, they will host a variety of sporting, artistic, charity, and cross-curricular events throughout the year.
House points are totalled monthly and contribute to an annual House point competition. This is a source of great excitement.
This System also supports ABQ’s Discovering You Program (DYP). DYP is a personalized, mentoring program which provides students with the guidance to choose and plan their tertiary education and career options. It also gives them the opportunity to learn and master 12 vital 21st century skills. The House System offers ample opportunity to practice most of these skills in day-to-day situations.
Rayed Darwish, the DYP Mentorship Program Director says, “A variety of House competitions take place during the year and the students will have the opportunity to earn points for their teams. We encourage everyone to be proud members of their House and work together with the members of their team.”
It is not only students who are allocated a House. Staff are also involved. The sense of community that pervades throughout the school would be incomplete if students were not given the opportunity to interact with teachers beyond those they see in the classroom.
The House System is designed to create a caring and supportive environment where all students are welcome and valued and can demonstrate loyalty and allegiance while contributing to the success of their House.
