Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is maintaining the Via Ferrata climbing wire in Jebel Shams in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
"The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with Oman Hikin team, is maintaining the Via Ferrata climbing wire and replacing the old pillars with new ones that are safer for climbers. The climbing wire is 80 metres high, while the climbing path is 120 metres long,” Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement.
Abdullah bin Sulaiman Al Shukaili, head of the Oman Hiking team, said: “The team, in partnership with the Tourism Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, maintained the iron climbing wire in Jebel Shams, with the approval of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and under the technical supervision of the Royal Army of Oman.”
Al Shukaili explained that this initiative came after a number of accidents occurred as a result of the presence of sharp pegs that were replaced by “U” pegs, which are considered safe for adventurers. He added that the maintenance work included digging new pegs and installing them has been in a professional manner, where the quality of stainless steel was chosen and installed with a special type of steel, and the glue prevents its removal.
