Muscat: Thought e-Commerce, an Omani e-commerce company, has acquired the majority of the shares of Rafeeq, the country’s largest online supermarket.
The move comes after the departure of Payam Ashori, founder of Rafeeq. Owned by Muscat Media Group, Thought e-Commerce aims to tap into Oman’s fast-growing e-commerce sector, which is particularly patronised by the younger section of Omanis and expatriates in the country.
“We thank Payam Ashori for his invaluable contributions to the setting up of Rafeeq, and wish him all the best for his future endeavours,” said Fadi Kattar, chief operating officer for Muscat Media Group. “We have had an excellent, fruitful partnership with him, and are sure his skills will find much demand among tech developers today. “At the same time, we are excited for what the future holds,” he added.
“The peak of the COVID-19 pandemic showed us that there is a need for online services, and they will continue to have a foothold in many sectors in the years to come. Be it retail, food delivery, or home services such as spa treatments, there is untapped potential in this market.”
“During the pandemic, for example, we saw that in addition to a reliance on online platforms, there was also the initiation of services such as telemedicine and online counselling,” said Kattar.
“What the internet has always helped us to, and is continuing to do, is to break down the physical barriers towards accessing services and information. The opportunities here are truly limitless,” Kattar said.
Rafeeq is a fully integrated app that opens up a world of e-retail for consumers to browse from the comfort of their home.
A wide range of niche products sourced from local and international vendors are available at competitive prices along with access to special promotions and one-click customer service.
The 100 per cent Omani supermarket recently became a key sponsor of the upcoming Al Mouj Muscat Marathon and will also support a number of other sporting events, including the Spartan Race and Tough Mudder, which are also slated to take place next year.
Customers who shop with Rafeeq can also enjoy free delivery of orders above OMR5. rafeeq.om features an extensive variety of goods, including groceries, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy, ready to eat meals, savouries, sweets, household supplies, electronics, stationery, game cards, office supplies, baked goods, cereals, grains, sauces, jams, beverages, baby food, personal care products, and many more essentials.
Dedicated towards doing its bit to provide the next generation of Oman a safe, sustainable environment to enjoy for years to come, Rafeeq, the country’s largest e-commerce grocery store, has consistently adopted a no-plastic bag policy for nearly all of its products.
