Muscat: The section of Nuclear Medicine at Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center has started using a new machine, the Siemens Biography Vision 600 PET-CT to diagnose cancer patients, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate and the Middle East.
This achievement comes as part of the centre’s vision of serving patients and providing the highest levels of health care for the treatment and diagnosis of cancer patients. The new machine allows the diagnosis of tumours of different sizes, especially small ones that helps medical team to quantify the tumour accurately and understand disease progression.
Dr Khulood Al Riyami, Nuclear medicine consultant at the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine said: " This machine is characterised by its technology that allows reduction of scanning time and injected doses to increase productivity in addition to improving the quality of images.
Medical Physicist, Naema Al Maimani, stated: "We are proud to participate in imaging the first patient through quality control checks to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the device and to provide the team with necessary tools to complete this work."
