Muscat: An emergency response drill held at Muscat International Airport has improved the readiness of personnel who need to deal with such situations when they actually occur.

Held on Friday, 29 October, the drill simulated the procedures that personnel need to follow under similar circumstances, and was held by Oman Airports in collaboration with the Royal Oman Police, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Oman Air, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, and Transom Handling.

“This exercise came as a part of Oman Airports’ commitment in implementing the highest standards of emergency response and procedures followed in the world’s airports to measure the regulations and laws in these cases,” said the company in a statement.

In this context, the CAA added: “the Civil Aviation Authority was the supervising body during the implementation of the emergency exercise, which was carried out at Muscat International Airport with the participation of various security and civil authorities.”

“The implementation of this exercise comes within the framework of periodic programmes to maintain the readiness of Muscat International Airport to deal with emergency situations, in accordance with civil aviation regulations and licensing requirements issued by the Civil Aviation Authority,” said the government body. Titled “Shield”, the exercise was held between 6 and 10 am, and involved all of the above organisations.

“Please take note of the movement of ambulances, emergency personnel and police cars to and from the airport during this period,” said Oman Airports in a statement, prior to the start of the drill. “Oman Airports confirms that all necessary preparations have been taken to ensure that airport operations and traffic in the area are not affected.”

The drill aimed to “unify efforts and integrated work between the participating authorities to determine the levels of response and effectiveness in dealing with emergency accidents and exceptional incidents,” the ROP added.
