Syrian Minister of Culture met The National Museum's Secretary General

Muscat: Syrian Minister of Culture met The National Museum's Secretary General and they discussed the preparations for the 'Day of Oman' Exhibition that will be held in Damascus.

Her Excellency Dr Lubanah Mushawah, Syrian Minister of Culture, met His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan al-Moosawi, Secretary General of the National Museum of Oman, and the accompanying delegation in Damascus.

The two parties discussed the preparations and the sideline events of the Day of Oman Exhibition that will be held in Damascus. In addition, they spoke about the steps taken to activate the Memorandum of Understanding in the cultural and museum field that was signed in Muscat in 2019 CE.

They also discussed promoting cultural and museum work between the two countries, the prospects of specialised training and the opportunity for Syrian specialists to benefit from the Omani experience in the museum field.

The two sides also reviewed the measures taken on the 'Syrian Museum Collection Loan Annex', which will be signed on the sidelines of the exhibition for the second batch of Syrian artifacts that were damaged during the years of crisis. The objects will go under conservation and restoration processes, and then will be exhibited in a temporary exhibition gallery at the National Museum of Oman.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of extending the loan of the manuscript of Ahmed bin Majid as-Saadi, which has been on display at the National Museum since March 2020, for another year, so that citizens, residents and visitors can see this rare manuscript.

Her Excellency the Syrian Minister of Culture expressed her happiness by receiving the Omani delegation and establishing artistic, cultural and intellectual activities between the two parties.

H.E. The Secretary General of the National Museum said that Damascus is the third stop to host the exhibition and events "Day of Oman", and will be launched on November 1 at the headquarters of the National Museum in Damascus and will last for six months.

His Excellency added that the exhibition will convey the Omani cultural experience.

H.E explained how the agreement will conserve the first batch of Syrian objects that were damaged during the years of the crisis, which amounted to 175 acquisitions. 100 pieces were fully conserved and restored to the custody of the Syrian side on the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition after Omani experts successfully worked on it.

The interview was attended by representatives of the Embassy of Oman in Damascus, and from the Syrian side; the Director General of Antiquities and Museums, the Director General of the Assad National Library in Damascus, the Director of Planning and International Cooperation, and the Head of the Department of International Cooperation at the Syrian Ministry of Culture.
