Muscat: The Ministerial Committee for the Assessment of Damage Resulting from the Tropical Condition, on Thursday approved the assignment of maintenance works for 8 dams and 55 Falajes.
“The Ministerial Committee for the Assessment of Damage Resulted from the Tropical Condition approves postponing the repayment of housing loans with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning for citizens whose homes are affected by the tropical situation in the states of Musanah, Suwaiq, Khaboura and Saham in order to mitigate the damages of the tropical situation to families,” Oman News Agency said.
The committee was briefed on the presentation submitted by the Ministry on the lands, properties and paths of the valleys affected by the tropical situation and submitted proposals to address the effects and directed the work of unified maps showing the geographical nature of the Sultanate of Oman and clarifying the paths of the valleys and their prohibitions in order to circulate it to all relevant government agencies to work, each in its field, to complete the system of preparedness for emergency situations and to avoid potential risks.
The committee also directed work to review existing housing schemes and non-distributed schemes in the affected wilayats, stop distributing lands in valley streams located in high-risk areas, and direct the process of rehabilitating valley tracks, cleaning valley streams, making water drainage channels and the necessary protection on both sides of the valleys to reduce the risk of flooding, distribute the roles between the relevant authorities and generalise the experience to all states of the Sultanate of Oman on the coastal strip.
