MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 3,969.54 points, down 0.10 per cent from the previous close. The Shariah Index ended down by 1.46 per cent at 564.77 points.

Jazeera Steel Product was the top gainer, up by 8.94 per cent. While Asaffa Foods, down 9.68 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Madina Takaful was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Bank Muscat was the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 724 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR2.6 million, with more than 14.5 million shares changing hands. Out of 55 traded securities, 17 advanced, 12 declined and 15 remained unchanged. At the session close, Local investors were net sellers for OMR778,000 while foreign investors were net buyers for OMR769,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR9,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,261 points, down 0.47 per cent. Prices of Bank Dhofar, Taageer Finance, Bank Muscat and Oman & Qatar Insurance were up 1.67 per cent, 1.35 per cent, 0.85 per cent and 0.51 per cent respectively. Oman United Insurance, Muscat Finance, Global Investment Holding, United Finance and Ominvest down 5.71 per cent, 3.23 per cent, 3.03 per cent, 1.75 per cent and 1.27 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 6,132.49 points, down 1.08 per cent. Prices of Jazeera Steel Product, NAPI, Gulf Mushroom and Oman Cement were up 8.94 per cent, 5.74 per cent, 3.59 per cent and 0.42 per cent respectively.

Services Index was up by 0.27 per cent before closing at 1,677.50 points. Sembcorp Salalah, Al Batinah Power, Renaissance Services, National Gas and Dhofar Generating were up 3.75 per cent, 1.92 per cent, 1.75 per cent, 1.48 per cent and 1.11 per cent respectively. Oman National Engineering, Shell Oman Marketing, Al Jazeera Services, SMN Power Holding and OIFC were down 3.06 per cent, 2.13 per cent, 2.11 per cent, 1.69 per cent and 0.71 per cent respectively.
