Cyclone Shaheen: Health ministry dispatches special teams to affected areas in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Health announced the dispatch of specialised teams to the areas affected by Cyclone Shaheen to assess the potential risks that may threaten public health and to limit the spread of infectious diseases.

The Ministry said in a statement: "The ministry announces the start of running specialised teams from Sunday to carry out a field survey in the wilayats of North and South Al Batinah governorates affected by the tropical situation, Shaheen. The ministry calls on citizens and residents residing in those states to cooperate with field teams."

The ministry added that the survey aims to assess potential risks that may threaten public health and to develop the necessary interventions to reduce the spread of infectious diseases. The team will also focus on entomological investigation using traps to know the type and density of mosquitoes that transmit diseases, as well as active investigation of suspected cases (fever, rash, pulmonary and intestinal symptoms).

The ministry explained: "The survey targets the populated areas and farms in the states directly affected by the cyclone, namely Suwaiq and Al Khaboura in North Al Batinah and Al Masanah in South Al Batinah."
