HH Sayyid Theyazin to be chief patron at T20 WC final qualifier ceremony

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth will be the chief patron at today’s opening ceremony of the final qualifiers for the T20 Cricket World Cup.

The T20 Cricket World Cup ceremony will be held in Oman, represented by the Oman Cricket Club, on the grounds of the Oman Cricket Academy in the wilayat of Al Amerat.

The Oman national cricket team will play against Papua New Guinea immediately after the opening ceremony, which will be held at 1:30 pm, while at 6 pm, Bangladesh will face Scotland.

On the coming Tuesday, at 2 pm, Scotland and Papua New Guinea will meet, while at 6 pm, Oman will meet Bangladesh. On the final day of the qualifiers, October 21, Bangladesh will face Papua New Guinea, and Oman will face off against Scotland. Two of these qualifiers will qualify for the final rounds, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of 12 qualified teams from different continents.

The opening ceremony includes a number of musical performances presented by the Royal Cavalry music wing, in addition to the entry of the flags of the participating countries carried by members of the Royal Cavalry.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Manu Sawhney, CEO of the International Cricket Council, heads of federations participating in the qualifiers, and Pankaj Khimji, chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Cricket.
