MSX index ends marginally higher

MSX index ends marginally higher

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 3,964.08 points, up 0.21 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended down by 0.12 per cent at 578.14 points.

Al Omaniya Financials Services was the top gainer, up by 6.36 per cent. While Dhofar Generating, down 9.28 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Galfar Engineering was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Oman Cables Industry was the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 467 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR 1.2 million, with more than 7 million shares changing hands. Out of 38 traded securities, 11 advanced, 10 declined and 17 remained unchanged. At the session close, foreign investors were net sellers for OMR139,000 while local investors were net buyers for OMR126,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR14,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,274 points, up 0.18 per cent. Prices of Al Omaniya Financial Services, Oman & Emirates Holding, Oman & Qatar Insurance, National Finance and United Finance were up 6.36 per cent, 4.17 per cent, 3.93 per cent, 2.86 per cent and 1.72 per cent respectively. Al Anwar Investment, Ominvest and Al Sharqia Investment were down 1.79 per cent, 1.27 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 6,199.39 points, down 0.70 per cent. The price of Oman Cement was the only gainer 0.42 per cent. Oman Cables Industry, Galfar Engineering, Raysut Cement and Al Maha Ceramics were down 4.08 per cent, 3.57 per cent, 1.17 per cent and 1.11 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.26 per cent before closing at 1,673.04 points. Phoenix Power and Omantel were up 2.17 per cent, and 1.09 per cent respectively. Dhofar Generating, OIFC and Oman National Engineering were down 9.28 per cent, 2.13 per cent and 1.00 per cent respectively.
