Muscat: Two companies have been assigned the task to rebuild and repair roads damaged by cyclone Shaheen.

Strabag Oman and Al Sarooj Construction will undertake the repair works in North and South Batinah governorates, restoring those roads that were damaged during the adverse weather. They were assigned the task by the Ministerial Committee set up to assess damage caused by the cyclone.

The committee was formed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik to analyse the impact of the cyclone and take measures to assist people and restore normalcy.

The scope of the second package includes repairing the damages to the Wadi Bani Omar Road, Wadi Al Jahour Road, Wadi Al Sarmi Road, Wadi Al Qunoot Road, Wadi Al Hawasneh Road and Sohar - Yanqul Road.

Meanwhile, the committee, led by Sultan Salim Al Habsi, the minister of finance, looked at other forms of support and assistance that could be provided to people to help alleviate the impact of Shaheen.

Efforts are also underway to restore telecommunication services through the operation of mobile connection units and the linking of some stations in stricken areas with outside stations. All companies have been instructed to find alternative measures to restore services, reported Oman News Agency.
