Cyclone Shaheen: Avoid these practices to keep your motor insurance valid

Muscat: The Capital Market Authority has confirmed that crossing valleys deliberately or failing to follow instructions issued by the police may lead to compensation being denied to insurance policy holders, if it can be proven that the vehicle damage was a result of a deliberate act by the driver.

“In light of continuous rainfall caused by cyclone Shaheen, the Capital Market Authority calls on citizens, residents, property owners and owners of industrial establishments and shops to adhere to security and safety instructions in order to maintain their safety and the safety of their properties."

The authority confirmed that the unified vehicle insurance policy in comprehensive insurance covers damages resulting from natural disasters, including hail, flooding of valleys, storms and cyclones, but it requires the policy holder to take all reasonable precautions to preserve the vehicle and to not risk crossing valleys and to follow the instructions of the Royal Oman Police. In a case of deliberate crossing of valleys and failure to follow instructions, the police may waive the right of the policy holder from compensation if it is proven that the damage to the vehicle resulted from a deliberate act committed by its driver.
