Muscat: People living in the areas from Barka to Saham, the coastal strip in Muscat, and other coastal areas in South Sharqiyah need to evacuate their homes and move to the shelters designated for protection against cyclone Shaheen.

The National Committee for Emergency Management has posted the various shelters on its social media channels.

“This measure is taken as a result of the impact of tropical cyclone Shaheen on a number of governorates, along with severe winds,” said the NCEM in its statement.

This is also due to “sea waves that could rise between eight and 12 metres, and the tides reaching the land,” added the committee.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has also called on all hotel establishments located on the coastal strip from Muscat Governorate to North Al Batinah Governorate to evacuate inmates and visitors to alternative accommodation centres that are safer from the effects of the tropical state.
