Cyclone Shaheen: Over 35 shelters opened in North Al Batinah

Muscat: Over 35 shelters have been allocated in North Al Batinah Governorate to deal with the effects of tropical cyclone Shaheen.

"The Sub-Committee for Emergency Management in North Al Batinah Governorate has allocated, as part of its preparations, 37 shelter centers distributed over the governorate's wilayats. Of these, eight centres each are in the wilayats of Sohar and Suwaiq, six centres in each of the wilayats of Saham and Shinas, five centres in the Wilayat of Al Khaboura, and four centres in the Wilayat of Liwa," Oman News Agency (ONA), said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah issued a warning to all fishermen, farmers, livestock breeders, owners of honey apiaries and those living at dams, valley streams and low-lying areas to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety and to preserve their property and equipment," Oman News Agency (ONA), said in a statement.

In other related news, the Minister of Information has confirmed the readiness of the media to deal with developments related to the cyclone.

"His Excellency Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harassi, the Minister of Information, confirms the readiness of the print, audio, visual and electronic media in dealing with the effects and developments of Shaheen cyclone, such as public awareness, instructions and warnings in multiple languages ​​for citizens and residents, and highlighting the efforts made by the response sectors," Oman TV said in a statement.
