Muscat: Health centres and hospitals in Oman are ready to deal with the impact Shaheen could have on them.

According to the Ministry of Health, healthcare providers will be working from a national health emergency plan that has been drafted for such situations.

“We would like to confirm the readiness of health institutions to deal with the tropical situation, which is likely to affect some of the Sultanate's governorates, by meeting all the needs of these institutions and their requirement for manpower, medical devices and medicines for routine work, as well as other logistical services,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Health has made active the national health emergency plan for medical responses and public health, at both the central level, and in governorates likely to be affected by the tropical situation.

The call centre of the ministry is also online, and a shift schedule has been prepared for administrators, doctors, and healthcare workers according to the emergency plan that is in place for such situations.

Governorates close to the places expected to be affected by the cyclone are stocked with medicines, medical supplies and personnel. Besides, central stores in the ministry are ready to send additional shipments of medicines and other medical equipment to all directorates, hospitals and health centres.

There is also a plan in place for IT and blood bank services.
