Cyclone Shaheen: Colleges switch to online classes

Muscat: A number of colleges and universities in the Sultanate have decided to switch to distance learning as a result of the Sultanate being affected by Tropical Cyclone Shaheen. Nizwa University and Sohar University also announced suspension of campus attendance.

Nizwa University 

Nizwa University said in a statement: Based on the data received from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System center on Tropical Cyclone Shaheen.

The University would like to inform staff, faculty, and students of the following:

1- Suspension of the campus attendance from Sunday October 3, until October 7, 2021.

2- Commencement of online teaching for all courses and programmes for this week's schedule.


3- The students may returns on Friday 8/10/2021.


Sohar University

Sohar University said in a statement: “ Due to the weather and for the sake of your safety, the study for tomorrow, Sunday, will be remotely, and all lectures on the campus stand cancelled.”


University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Rustaq


The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Rustaq, Tyre and Muscat announced its decision to implement distance learning from 3 to 7 October.

The College of Technology said in a statement: "Due to the climatic conditions that the Sultanate is witnessing, it has been decided that distance learning will be for all students until further notice; therefore, please follow the e-mail to follow up on the details of attending the courses."
