Tanweer announced the successful completion of the first phase of the Smart Meters project

Muscat: As part of Nama Group and its companies’ efforts to raise the efficiency of billing processes and provide a better experience to its customers, the Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer), member of Nama Group, announced the successful completion of the first phase of the Smart Meters project (AMR & Prepaid meters) installation project.

The national project aims to replace conventional analogue meters with Smart Meters by 2025 to allow a better customer experience by offering an accurate and instant overview of the actual consumption of electricity for each customer, which in turn will eliminate the human error factor associated with some cases of physical meter readings.

The project's first phase included installing about 4,000 meters by the end of Sep of this year. Tanweer has also taken intensive steps to spread awareness and highlight the advantages and importance of Smart Meters and ways to achieve maximum benefits. And how Smart Meters can help customers optimally manage their electricity use and participate in reducing carbon emissions.

Through the Smart Meters project, Tanweer adopts the latest world-class technologies to obtain accurate meter readings and automatically calculate the consumption of each customer, which improves the quality of meter reading and billing accuracy to achieve higher customers satisfaction.

The new meters will not only allow customers to get detailed and accurate consumption reports but will also help them use electrical resources more efficiently by enabling them to monitor and control the use of electricity.
