Muscat: Mohsen Khamis Al Balushi, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and Commissioner-General of the Sultanate at Expo 2020 Dubai, confirmed the Sultanate’s full readiness for this global event.

He noted that the Omani pavilion is all set to receive visitors of Expo 2020 Dubai, which comes under the slogan “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. As many as 191 countries, as well as regional and international organisations will participate in the Expo.

Al Balushi said in a statement  that the Sultanate seeks, through Expo 2020 Dubai, to be part of the global march towards innovative solutions for challenges facing humanity and highlighting concepts and principles of sustainable development to ensure a bright future for the coming generations. The participation is also a step towards maximising Oman’s desired gains at all levels, most important of which is the economic, social and cultural, Al Balushi added.

The participation also aims to introduce the Sultanate as a distinct tourism and business destination, as well as highlighting the Omani identity and the rich ancient Omani heritage, promoting investment opportunities in various sectors, and communicating and interacting with the international community in various fields.

The pavilion is inspired by the frankincense tree, which played a leading role in promoting Omani trade in the ancient civilisations, as the design tells the story of Oman throughout history.

The pavilion is divided into five sections that simulate in their content the life cycle of frankincense, syncing with the three sub-themes of Expo 2020 Dubai, which are Mobility, Sustainability and Opportunity.

Young Omani competencies from the Innovation Factory Company carried out the designing, manufacturing and implementation of devices, equipment and technologies that will be used in telling and reviewing the content of the pavilion’s story.

The design and content selection take the visitors of the Omani pavilion on an educational and recreational journey, which is also interesting and entertaining.

Over the course of six months, the pavilion will host a series of Omani events and participations, including scientific, artistic, cultural and economic seminars on various topics. In addition, certain weeks will be specified for fields that have the potential to maximise economic gains such as the Omani Products Exhibition, the SMEs Exhibition, and the Omani Investment Week, in which the concerned authorities will take part and preview promising investment opportunities in Oman.

The participation will also include several initiatives, including participating in the Women’s Pavilion to celebrate Omani Women’s Day next October, and organising a cruise onboard “Oman Youth Ship 2” in addition to the Sale Outlet that where more than 2,000 types of goods and products of nearly 400 SMEs for artisans, productive families and rural area’s women will be displayed and sold in this global event.

It is noteworthy that the Expo is one of the oldest and most important global events in terms of the magnitude and the interest of global media. It consolidates public understanding about human achievements in various societal sectors on various national, regional and global levels. It is also a successful communication channel between different peoples and civilizations to consolidate sustainable development and global peace principles.
