Oman tourism: Over 250,000 visit museums in 2015

Muscat: The number of visitors to the Sultanate’s 10 museums witnessed an increase on an annual basis, where 253,252 persons visited those museums last year, compared with 250,283 visitors in 2014, as indicated by the statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The statistics indicate that the rate of visits amounted to 60 visitors per thousand of the population and an average of 29 visitors per hour.
August scored the highest number of visitors to museums in the Sultanate in 2015, with 39,915 visitors, most of them visited Frankincense Land Museum in the Governorate of Dhofar, with 32,221 persons visited the museum in Al Khareef Season, while June scored the lowest number of visitors with 4,58 visitors.
Frankincense Land Museum has seen the largest number of visitors with 101,00 and 921 visitors in 2015.
The peak of visits to the Frankincense Land Museum was in July, with 22 and 84,00 visitors and in August with 32,221 visitors.
Bait al Zubair Museum came second, with 73,00 and 513 visitors compared to 85,00 and 310 visitors in 2014.
The Child Museum was visited last year by 19,00 and 615 visitors, down from 21,00 and 893 visitors in 2014.
August had the highest number of visitors with 3,183 visitors, while September scored the lowest number of visitors with 599 visitors.
The Natural History Museum was visited in 2015 by 18,364 visitors, compared to 20 thousand and 274 visitors in 2014.
March recorded the highest number of visitors with 2,787 visitors, while September was the lowest with 416 visitors.
The Sultan’s Armed Forces Museum was visited by 12,462 visitors in 2015, compared to 12 thousand and 348 visitors in 2014.
The month of December 2015 saw the highest number with 1,899 visitors and June was the lowest in number of visitors, with 286 visitors.
Al Barandah Museum was visited last year by seven thousand and 79,400 visitors, compared with 7 and 617 visitors in 2014.
April saw the highest number with one thousand and 533 visitors.
July recorded the lowest number with 100 visitors only.
The Omani- French Museum was visited by 2778 visitors in 2015, compared to 3 thousand and 711 visitors in 2014.
February recorded the highest number of visitors in 2015, with 460 visitors.
July was the lowest in number with 63 visitors
