Muscat: Omanis represent 93 per cent of the total pharmacists working in the government sector, and Muscat has the largest number of private pharmacies compared to other governorates.

According to the data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, there are 794 private pharmacies in Oman, the largest number of which is found in the Governorate of Muscat with 288 pharmacies, while the Al Wusta Governorate is the lowest governorate in the presence of pharmacy activity with only five.

On September 25, the world will celebrate World Pharmacists Day. On this occasion, the Ministry of Health congratulated all workers in this field, saying: “The ministry congratulates every pharmacist in various health institutions on the occasion of World Pharmacists Day, we thank you for your great efforts in serving the people of Oman. Each one of you is an asset, support, and pride for all."

The ministry also issued advice and instructions on the optimal use of the drug, saying, each time when taking medicines, kindly check the name of the medicine, and also recheck the dose and expiry date.

 Know when to take the medicine (before or after food) and if there are any other contraindications to the use of any other drinks with the specified medicine.

Be aware of the possible side effects of the medication being taken. Be sure to take the medication at regular times.

  Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines or when you are taking nutritional supplements or herbal medicines.
