Muscat: The support measures and benefits package announced by the Supreme Committee are largely supportive of small and medium enterprises, after the negative effects of COVID-19, said an official at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

The Supreme Committee had announced support measures to improve the prospects and resilience of businesses to post-pandemic economic revival.

His Excellency Ali Al Hajri, Second Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of OCCI and Chairman of the Chamber’s Branch in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, valued and appreciated the decisions issued by the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19.

HE Al Hajri said: "The recent decisions announced are very supportive of small and medium enterprises, as it is imperative that they strengthen their performance after the negative effects faced due to COVID-19. Enterprises have suffered from stagnation and weak funding which led to their inability to sustain and continue performance. We highly appreciate decisions and benefits launched by the committee and the attention paid by the members and the technical teams."

His Excellency explained: "The activities that will benefit from the package of these exemptions will be able to fulfill their financial and administrative obligations and will adapt to the current and future unpredictable times."

His Excellency Eng. Ridha bin Juma Al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also praised the recent decisions issued by the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19.

His Excellency said that the exemptions issued by the Supreme Committee, in addition to urging banks and finance companies to cooperate with affected borrowers, especially small and medium enterprises, and reschedule loans without fees, will contribute to stimulating the economy and developing the private sector. It will ensure the continuity of companies, especially those that are going through a critical stage and help them to withstand and advance.

The Chairman expressed the Chamber's appreciation for the high response of government agencies and private sector demands to provide packages of support and facilities.
