Culture ministry maps out creative industries project

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth mapped out a project on creative industries of art-related sectors.

The project is the first systematic step to introduce and measure creative industries by collecting data and analyzing it using international methods.

The project will disseminate in-depth understanding about the sector. The move will enhance the role of the ministry’s Directorate General for Arts in offering services and providing legislations and facilities, thus boosting these sectors at the local and international levels.

Ahmed Al Busaidi, Acting Director General for Arts in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth said that the map will contribute in increasing dialogue and knowledge exchange on policies, best practices, and the measures necessary to strengthen creative sectors.

Al Busaidi added that the map will identify indicators of creativity required to support a cultural strategy based on evidence.

The project will contribute in developing a competitive environment in line with Oman Vision 2040 and meeting aspirations of creative Omani youths, Al Busaidi said.

Nehad Ali Al Hadi, Head of the team responsible for mapping out the project said that the methodology of outlining the map was based on a scientific and research analysis of international experience.

Al Hadi added that the team seeks to harness international experiences that are suitable with the nature of Omani society by utilizing research tools including surveys, interviews, databases, and seminars with practitioners of creative field.
