MSX index ends marginally lower

MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 3,961.50 points, down 0.02 per cent from previous close. The Sharia Index ended down by 0.57 per cent at 584.71 points.

Oman Education & Training, up 4.55 per cent, was the top gainer while Phoenix Power, down 2.13 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Bank Muscat was the most active in terms of number of shares traded as well as in terms of turnover.

A total number of 398 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating turnover of OMR4.4 million, with more than 13.5 million shares changing hands. Out of 49 traded securities, 5 advanced, 12 declined and 32 remained unchanged. At the session close, Domestic investors were net buyers for OMR620,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR459,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR161,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,314 points, up 0.03 per cent. Prices of Muscat Finance and National Bank Oman were up 1.67 per cent and 0.51 per cent respectively. United Finance, Ahlia Insurance and Al Omaniya Financials Services were down 1.69 per cent, 1.64 per cent and 0.85 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 6,006.97 points, down 0.20 per cent. Price of Oman Fisheries was the only gainer by 2.70 per cent. Asaffa Foods, National Aluminum Product, Raysut Cement, Galfar Engineering and Gulf International Chemical were down 9.79 per cent, 1.97 per cent, 1.49 per cent, 1.27 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.19 per cent before closing at 1,707.30 points. Price of Oman Education & Training and Dhofar Generating were up 4.55 per cent and 1.60 per cent respectively. Phoenix Power, Oman Investment & Financials and Oman National Engineering were down 2.17 per cent, 1.37 per cent, 1.06 per cent respectively.
